What is backflow?

Backflow is when water flows backward into the public water supply network. This is caused when water pressure drops in the water distribution system causing water to flow in the opposite direction.

IQP Annual Backflow Testing

Auckland Council require that as part of the annual Building Warrant Of Fitness (BWOF), all backflow prevention devices must be inspected and tested annually by an Independently Qualified Person (IQP). This applies to commercial buildings and also some residential buildings if they are deemed a “high or medium risk site”.

Backflow Prevention

NZ building code requires that every property owner must prevent backflow either by providing an adequate air gap or by using a backflow prevention device. Commercial properties are required to include backflow prevention as part of the Auckland council consent process.
